600	The Polan tribe dwelled in Gniezno and Poznan (Greater Poland). From it descends the first Polish Dynasty - the Piasts. At this time Cracow was the central settlement of the Wislan tribe.
966	Baptism of Poland: Piast Prince Mieszko I introduces Christianity.
999	Bishop Adalbert becomes the first Saint of Poland (Gniezno).
1000	Archbishopric Gniezno and the Bishoprics Kolobrzeg, Cracow, Wroclaw are founded. Holy Roman Emperor Otto III recognizes the Polish Prince Boleslaus as sovereign of an independent state.
